    The Programme

For changemakers who believe education transforms the world.

The Education Studies programme is an exciting and intellectually stimulating degree that gives you a solid understanding of education before pursuing a career in teaching or in education more widely. It invites you to be curious and to bring together perspectives from history, sociology, psychology and philosophy of education, applying them to current education policy and practice.

You'll have the chance to be innovative and resourceful, gaining valuable work experience in a school or in an educational department — for example a museum, a business, a local authority, or a national or international educational charity — and you'll take part in a community-based project.

    What you will study

Four disciplines, one full picture of education.

Education Studies is taught through the foundational disciplines of history, philosophy, psychology and sociology. Together they allow a full range of enquiry: history introduces "what was", sociology shows "what is", philosophy encourages thinking about "what should be", and psychology shows "what we can be". This understanding is essential whether you want to become a good teacher or follow any other career in education.

You'll discover wide-ranging career opportunities in fields relating not only to education but also to social care, health care, careers and guidance, and the voluntary sector — and you'll be prepared to succeed as a higher-level teaching assistant, welfare child protection officer, early years practitioner, care assistant or community learning facilitator.
